Anthea McIntyre is a former Member of the European Parliament, where she represented the West Midlands region from 2011 to 2020. She is a businesswoman and devotes spare time to a range of public and voluntary-service roles.
Anthea was the Conservative Chief Whip in the European Parliament and spokesman on employment, the environment and agriculture.
She drafted Parliamentary reports on a variety of subjects including smart farming, encouraging entrepreneurs and re-shoring jobs (see Work in Parliament tab). She also piloted legislation through the Parliament to protect biosecurity and prevent the import and spread of deadly plant pests.
Anthea has also served as a Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party and a member of the Party’s Board.
Prior to becoming an MEP, she stood for Westminster in the Redditch constituency in 1997 and the Shrewsbury and Atcham constituency in 2001.
A lifelong party activist, she is a former deputy chairman of the National Young Conservatives, chairman of the Party's West Midlands Region, chairman of Hereford Conservative Association and, in 1977, became the youngest County Councillor in England.
Outside politics she is a director of MCP Systems Consultants, which specialises in business intelligence systems and Myers Road Safety Ltd, a small manufacturing company, with her husband Frank Myers MBE.
She is also a partner in her family’s smallholding and vineyard in Herefordshire.
Anthea won the European Woman of Achievement Award for Business in 1997 and in 2009 her work helped win MCP a national award for technological innovation in the Health Service.
In the voluntary capacity she chairs Herefordshire Conservative Business Forum and is an Ambassador for the Federation of Small Businesses.
Before becoming an MEP she was a member of the BBC Midlands Advisory Council, Hereford Community Health Council, Midlands Electricity Consultative Council and a Home Office appointed Trustee of the Community Development Foundation.
